Newspoint records an increase in the number of podcasts

16 April 2020, Robert Sadowski

Podcasts are audiovisual modern form of expression. They were created as an alternative to blogging and writing texts on social networking platforms. These are programmes you can listen to anytime, anywhere. You don’t need a special music player to listen to podcasts – all you need is a computer or smartphone that supports digital audio files (e. g. in MP3 format) or video files (in the case of video podcasts) and software that downloads and catalogues the transmissions on the basis of the information contained in the RSS files published with the podcasts.

Year after year, podcasts gain more than 10% of customers. Experts’ forecasts indicate that the use of podcasts will increase. In 2022 the number of active customers may reach 1. 5 billion. Publicis Groupe’s research in August 2019 showed that more than 1/4 of Polish Internet users have watched or listened to podcasts at least once. Almost everyone who listens to them does so at least once a month. Factors influencing the popularity of podcasts are the development of fast Internet and the growing share of remote work. Newspoint data indicate a monthly increase in available podcasts in Poland of 20% (in the era of coronavirus).

The Newspoint Panel query indexes the most popular and valuable podcasts; millions of data from major podcast streaming platforms, mainly Spotify and iTunes. The next platforms will be launched successively.

Newspoint monitors both podcasts and episodes of these podcasts. Newspoint technology allows indexing the descriptions of a given section and a given podcast and links to the podcast. In the Newspoint media monitoring panel you can also listen to the whole episode or its 30-second section. The user can search by titles and descriptions added by the authors.

Among the most productive podcast creators (sources) this year, according to Newspoint data, were:

  • RMF FM
  • BBC World Service
  • Weszlo.fm
  • Onet
  • iHeart Radio
  • The Economist
  • Kem Po
  • Halo.Radio
  • The Athletic
  • Polskie Radio S.A.
  • Napisy Końcowe
  • TED
  • The New York Times
  • Rzeczpospolita
  • ESPN
  • Gazeta Wyborcza
  • Gimlet
  • Techno Music
  • WhatCulture.com
  • Fox Sports Radio

Podcasts cover a wide range of topics: education, popular science programs, business, personal development, language learning, investment, finance, marketing, lifestyle and automotive. Podcasters often invite experts to their works, who explain in detail the specifics of the topics in their field. They also mention brands and product functionalities. It is worth following these contexts to keep up to date with opinions about us, the competition and the industry.
